A monument of national importance, Versailles covers an area of about 787 hectares. The Palace of Versailles, a world heritage site, is visited by about 15 million people a year. It is at the same time an Old Royal residence, a historical Museum and a state building where joint meetings of the National Assembly and the Senate are held.
Almost a hundred rooms of the Palace demonstrate the luxury of the former Royal residence of about a hundred others on an area of more than 10 000 m housed a wonderful collection of paintings and sculptures from the Museum of French history, created by Louis Philippe in 1837.
